April: A month of movement, growth, reflection, and progression.
- Mercy Neighbors Awards
In January, I had the pleasure of meeting the Director of Philanthropy of the Mercy Neighbors organization at Philly GiveCamp. As a way of giving thanks for help to their organization, everyone that was on my team of developers received an invitation to the nonprofit’s annual awards dinner. The event was an amazing experience. After the dinner, I was asked by the Director of Philanthropy to come help out with a youth tech program and was ordered to personally invite the nice woman that sat next to me at the awards dinner to attend my next WordPress presentation.
- Women In Tech Summit
It’s safe to say that my first time at this major tech event left a lasting impression on me. I met more of the Philly tech community and connected with fellow tech ladies that I am really looking forward to collaborating with in the near future. I got to meet in person some of my fellow TechGirlz team members even participated in a TechShopz in a Box™ workshop that was going on at the same time in another area of the building that the Women In Tech Summit was taking place. I really enjoyed the energy and strong desire to learn from our future leaders in tech.
First day on the job with @techgirlz at @womenintechsummit. It was great to connect with talented women in the local tech community at the conference and see so many young girls with a desire to learn.

- Philly Love Run
Well, it only took about five years, but I finally got over the hump of completing my first half-marathon. Did I feel ready? Absolutely not. Sometimes it’s experiences like that that prepare you for what’s to come next. I am grateful for all of the friendships and life lessons that came along from running my first half-marathon. It was truly an experience that will always stand out as the one I’ve learned the most about myself from among all of the races that I’ve ever participated in since my first race, which was a 10K, in 2011.
Finally ran a half marathon! Now @300poundsandrunning and @operationjack can finally stop bugging about not doing one. I’m glad that this was my first instead of the one I was supposed to do in NY back in 2011. A part of me thinks that my first half was meant to be in Philly. I’m so greatful for everyone that truly supported me in this effort. Another chapter closed. Time to close some more. It’s all about progression. Now, I’m on the the next one. **I really don’t like race day selfies, but I know that I’ll never hear the end of it from @cedarhillmom if I don’t post one.**
- Lady Hacks
I started out attending my third hackathon as an event volunteer and ended up getting scouted to help out on a team with my Lady WordPress partner in crime, Lauren Pittenger. It was fun working with her and getting to know her better outside of doing WordPress things.

- Big Climb Philly
Climb all the stairs!
Big Climb Philly my second Big Climb for LLS but my first in the City of Brotherly Love. I never thought that I’d ever do another stairclimb event, but there’s always something about doing any event for worthy cause that just keeps pulling back deep in the trenches. Watch out, schedule and/or injury permitting, I’ll be back for those stairs again next year!
